Top 5 Vintage Must Haves - Guest blog feature

Today LoveCharles is featuring a guest post from Rick at Become UK. All photos I've found from etsy shops and the photo links to the listing.

"What does vintage actually mean? These days, the word vintage has become a rather popular term and people refer to just about anything as being vintage. Vintage clothing and jewellery are typically what you think of when you hear the word vintage but you can find vintage bikes, vintage cottages—you can even live a vintage lifestyle! So what can we call vintage? The word refers to things from a certain era in the past. Articles of clothing, furniture or memorabilia that prominently features style from a time period can be considered vintage. One definition I found that helped me to understand the difference between antique and vintage was: Anything older than 100 years old can be referred to as antique, while anything under 100 years old is vintage. Another aspect that I really enjoy about vintage products is the idea of recycling. Buying vintage enables you to basically contribute to the well-being of the environment by breaking the cycle of disposing used clothing and accessories.
With this in mind, I decided to compile a list of must have vintage gear that anyone would appreciate in their wardrobe.

1. Vintage T-Shirt

What would life be without a vintage t-shirt? Boring and monotonous! A vintage t-shirt is probably a survivor of some good old times and on the upside, you can be sure that no one will ever wear the same shirt as you. The best t-shirt is one that is aged to perfection. If a shirt lasts for more than 20 years, the quality must be superb.

2. Lace Top

What would vintage be without quality lace? A lace top is truly a special piece of clothing. It is pretty and very feminine and has a uniquely elegant appearance. Lace does not need to be old and outdated; it is the new vintage style of 2010. Just add some lace and you can easily have a classic, vintage look.

3. Eyewear

Vintage sunglasses might just be the perfect accessory to complete your perfect outfit. Instead of buying new shades, get great vintage sunglasses. Good places to find them are second-hand shops and markets. Also, ask your parents and grandparents if they still have their old sunglasses—it’s an easy way of finding genuinely vintage sunglasses.

4. Hand Bags

The ultimate vintage accessory is a vintage hand bag. Walking through a second hand store and seeing a special vintage bag is like finding treasure. A hand bag can compliment any outfit and adds a special touch to your look that can reflect your personality.

5. Knitwear

Cute knitted cardigans and homemade socks are becoming a hot new style. If you can’t find what you are looking for in second-hand shops, just make some yourself. Knitting is attracting a new group of young and enthusiastic people who are coming up with great designs and patterns. Start knitting people! It’s the new thing to do in 2010. Once you have completed your first pair of socks, you will never look at socks the same way again. It is more than worth it! "
