Short hair

I always laugh a little bit when I hear the word androgynous towards someone with short hair. I never look at it as an insult if someone comments saying that, it's just a term you hear a lot. It is not a bad one, and can be used towards anyone going for a "menswear" look, short hair or not. (Do guys with long hair get called feminine often?) But let me tell you, jokingly I've been called a boy more times than I can count. I don't really like hair in general, I don't want feet of it getting in my way, and that's not going to make me dress more feminine or dress any differently than exactly how I want.

Here are a bunch of ladies sportin' a nice short cut. Click the image to go to the source.

  1. I always admire a lady who can pull off short hair. I don't think I could and I'm too scared to try...but when it's done right (as with these ladies here) it is so striking! Love it :)

  2. I love short hair... I've never quite been able to pull off the full on pixie cut, but I wish I could! You definitely do so beautifully though.

I'm growing my hair out right now - I've had it short for years and wanted to try something different, but the 15-20 minutes it takes to blow dry and straighten it every morning is starting to frustrate me. I could be sleeping, dammit!

    1. I never thought I could either! I also got sick of the upkeep and now I don't know if I could ever go back.

  5. Aww, thank you for posting one of my photos! I had long hair for years and then...this is so funny...I wore a short-haired wig in a play (The Gift of the Magi) and realized that I liked short hair on myself. So I cut it soon after that! I love how easy it is. I always used to wear a ponytail anyway when it was long because, yeah, I don't like the feeling of long hair getting in the way.

  6. I could not agree more. I had hair down the middle of my back for the first 18 years of my life, then I got a pixie cut, four years later and I am probably never going back. Was beyond thrilled when I found your blog and saw you rockin the short hair, love it.

  7. I've been rocking the short hair for a while now, I keep trying to grow it out but I just need to accept the fact that I love pixie cuts. I think I may have to chop it off again.

  10. Haha I obviously found your blog through my blog post too! Your hair is ADORABLE! Love love love how chunky and feathery it is.

All these ladies just look like strong women...I think that's what I like best about short hair; I feel POWERFUL and independent. Not dainty and girly! Not that there's anything wrong with dainty/girly...it's just not how I like to think of myself. :)

  11. Haha I found your blog through my post about hair too! :) LOVE your hair! It's adorable and you totally rock it!

I think what I like most about short hair is that I feel powerful and independent...instead of girly and dainty. There are times in my life when I like to feel dainty, but mostly I prefer to feel like I can do anything I want to. :)

  12. I am definitely in agreement with Laura. What I wouldn't do to pull off an edgy cut like that! Plus my natural hair is a giant curlball and I'm not so sure how well it'd fair... ah well, I can still appreciate.
