Close up - Crochet 40s Lucite Purse
I thought I'd try something a little new on the blog. I've recently gotten a lovely macro lens and in the process of fully utilizing it I thought it would be fun to do weekly "close up" posts. Vintage items have such amazing details, I always want to capture them, especially pieces with embroidery and beading! It'll provide a great resource too for crafters that want to recreate, or for visualizing details from specific eras. Anyway, here we go, a lucite and crochet purse from my great grandmother, circa 1940s. (Thank you ajschwery for identifying it as crochet for me! )

It's definitely crochet. I can't really explain how one tells the difference, but once you've made a knitted or crocheted item it's pretty easy to tell. Its all in how the stitches are created.

ReplyDeleteGreat feature idea! Love your macro photos! As a crocheter, I can decipher was was done to make this stitch pattern by the close up. It would be fun to try a swatch to see if I can duplicate it.
ReplyDeleteThats amazing you can get so much info from a close up photo! That makes me want to take macro shots even more. I would LOVE to see anything you create if you ever get around to a test swatch.
