    this will probably sound daft, but do screwback studs require that your ear be pierced? i can't tell from the photo, and I've never seen such a clasp on an earring.

    cute either way!

    Nope! They screw open and closed, that way you can adjust the tightness. A classic vintage clasp style. Before the snap clips this is what was used.
