This is the first of those 80's dresses that I mentioned I would be tailoring a bit. (Plus I figured it could be my easter dress even though I'm mega sick and just laying around the house all day.)
Originally it started out as a 3/4 sleeve dress, but the blouse sleeves were too much with the ruffles for me. I tend to stray from volume. So I simply removed the sleeves and hemmed the arms, and I have a ruffle dress that is much more to my liking. I'm debating hemming the bottom a few inches but figured I'd ask for some input.
Dress: Thrifted and altered
Jewelry: Gifted and thrifted
Shoes: Thrifted
The before pics.
So what do you think, Hem or not?
Have a happy easter everyone!

It looks great at the length it is...but it would also look great a few inches shorter
ReplyDeleteShorter is definitely the way to go and the alteration to the sleeves allows the ruffles to be better showcased. This is one of those instances where vintage can (and should) be altered to give it new life! :)
ReplyDeleteYou look pretty, but I would love to see the dress shortened a little. Love your blog! Glad I found you!

You did a fabulous job, the color of this dress is just amazing. And the ruffles are perfection. I like the longer length of this dress, but I have much different taste than most people.
ReplyDeleteAnd surprise we're sick twins... being sick on the holidays blows!
i really need to learn how to hem...too many cute vintage dresses are too long!
ReplyDeletethis purple color looks amazing on you! gorgeous

I love this dress and the color looks amazing on you. It could be shortened but either way you did a great job.
ReplyDeleteOhh, it looks so great without the sleeves! I'd vote for hemming...but I'm kind of a hemming addict...
ReplyDeletelove how you altered the dress, and i think its gorgeous the way it is! :)

I love how it turned out! And quite honestly, I like the length now, but I'm partial to that length.
ReplyDeleteI love how you altered this [absolutely perfect] dress! The color is stunning and it looks so good on you. Those ruffles make me swoon!
ReplyDeleteMaybe two inches off at the bottom. It is such a beautiful dress though, you really are an artist, to see the hidden potential like that.

I love it without the sleeves, but I wouldn't chop too much off. It would just look to much like another h&m dress then, while it's so soft and elegant now!
ReplyDeleteI like it as it is but I'd probably hem it if it was for myself. You did a great job with the sleeves. And I love the belt you paired it with.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love the length, but I also think shorter would be really darling for spring/summer! I always like shorter dresses though - they get me into trouble when Michigan decides to be windy though! Hehe. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this outfit. I think I like the length as it is, but I be it would look great hemmed, too.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful dress, and you did a great job with the sleeves. I think short or long it will look good, but it comes down to what you're most comfortable with.
ReplyDeleteI love the recon and actually think the length looks nice the way it is. Quite chic. But it would also be fun to take it up and make it a more of a going out type dress.
ReplyDeleteThat dress looks AMAZING on you!!!!!!

I love the length now, but an inch or so shorter would be just as lovely. If you are tall enough I think restrained lengths are very flattering.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! I actually spent quite a bit of time catching up on your blog today. It really is, amazing. Thanks for the inspiration.
